Rice water oat mask

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

For all skin types

When you cook rice, you remove it from the hob and drain the excess water revealing the rice. That's standard procedure right? But little do you realise, the leftover 'rice water' is a hidden gem.

This face mask will leave your skin looking airbrushed, tight and refreshed. The rice water shrinks your pores and contains copious amounts of minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and anti inflammatory pigments; necessary for clear and beautiful skin. Likewise, the oat serves as a gentle exfoliant, ridding your skin of dirt and trapped particles.

Below is the recipe for normal / sensitive skin. If your skin is more particular, here are a few amendments:

Dry skin: Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil

Oily skin: Add 1 teaspoon of plain yoghurt

Dark patches and discolouration: Add 1 teaspoon of milk (preferably cow's milk)

Rice water oat mask

Makes one small tub

Ingredients

125ml of rice water (1/2 cup)

1 tablespoon of steel cut oats

1/2 teaspoon of honey

Method

  1. Mix the rice water and oats in a small tub.

  2. Rinse your face with water, make sure it is clean.

  3. Pat dry with a towel or your hands.

  4. Apply a thick layer and leave for 15-20 minutes.

  5. Massage the mask into your face.

  6. Wash the mask off with water and apply moisturiser.

Hope you enjoy!
